Monday Morning Minutes November 9th, 2020
Posted on 11/09/2020

Dear ALC Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Message.

Daily COVID student assessment

Parents and guardians are to complete the Ottawa Public Health (OPH) COVID self-assessment for every student before leaving home each day.

Please fill in the following form before sending children back to school after illness OR testing.

This step is key to helping keep the virus out of the school.  Please take the time to thoroughly review the screening tool with your child each morning, and follow the directions provided by Ottawa Public Health.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep our staff and students safe and healthy.

ALC November Spirit days

We have two school-wide spirit days planned for this month.

This coming Friday the 13th is Favorite Sport/Team day.  Students and staff are encouraged to wear their a jersey/ t shirt/fan gear of a favorite sport or team

Friday, November 27th is Wacky Tacky day -  Dress as wacky as you like - ugly sweater, clashing patterns, mismatched or inside out clothing.

ALC Emergency Evacuation Plan

In the unlikely event that it becomes necessary to dismiss students from school prior to our normal dismissal time of 3:45 pm, due to an emergency situation such as a power failure, inclement weather, or an emergency evacuation, the following procedure will be followed:

  1. ALC parents/guardians will be contacted by email and/or School Messenger phone call to inform them of available details regarding the school closure.

  2. Closure information will be shared on Twitter and Facebook when possible.

  3. Students will be released as per the information provided by parents/guardians on the completed Emergency Closing Information form.

We would ask that all parents/guardians review, complete and return the attached form by Friday, November 13th.  The consent form may be returned either by email to Mrs Norton at or by hard copy to the homeroom teacher of your oldest child.

Parents are asked to select one of three options for each ALC child as per below:

Option #1 - WALK HOME

Option #2 TAKE THE BUS

Progress Report and Parent Teacher Interviews

Progress reports will be available to parents/guardians via the Report card portal as of Friday, November 20th.  New families who do not have an account to the Report Card Portal need to create an account to access the reports. Existing families who forgot their password can use the self-serve password reset on the Report Card Portal.  More details, including step by step instructions, can be found on the OCDSB website at:

For all ALC Report Card Portal inquiries, please contact Mrs Norton at

The first of three reports to go home during the school year, Progress Reports provide a summary of progress towards the achievement of curriculum expectations, learning skills and work habits during the first six weeks of school.  It also provides the opportunity for students, together with parents/guardians and teachers, to reflect upon learning and set goals for improvement.  Parent/teacher conferences will take place on the evening of Thursday, November 26th.  More specific details will be forthcoming in next week’s MMM.

A message from School Council regarding the Giving Basket Campaign for Carleton Heights families in need

For the last 4 years around this time, ALC school council starts ramping up for our Giving Basket initiative.  Our school council connects our school with families in need at our sister school, Carleton Heights.  Usually, we have a gift registry and you can pick items to purchase for the family that your class has taken on. However this year it will look a lot different.  We are going to collect Walmart and Grocery gift cards and they will be distributed by the Principal at Carleton Heights to each family in need.  We recognize that it will be harder this year to be as excited, since normally the school buzzes with excitement watching all the gifts flood into the building.  We ask that if you are able, you please consider purchasing a gift card.

Here is how we are arranging to do it this year. We are asking families to order through Fundscrip.  That way you purchase a gift card and at the same time, our school earns money back.

1.  Go to

2.  Create an account

3.  Find A Lorne Cassidy Elementary School

4.  Order a Walmart of Grocery gift card

5.  Ship to 27 Hobin Street, Stittsville, K2S 1G8 (A Lorne Cassidy)

We can not do this without the help of our generous school community.  Thank you for helping families in need and supporting your children’s school at the same time.  If you wish to purchase more gift cards for your family, please send them separately to your own home.
