Monday Morning Minutes November 23rd, 2020
Posted on 11/23/2020

Dear ALC Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Message.  We would like to start this week’s message with a very special thank you from the Kindergarten team at our sister school, Carleton Heights.  The staff and students are most appreciative of your generosity in funding their brand new Kindergarten playground.  Please take a moment to view the following thank you video message.

Daily COVID student assessment

Parents and guardians are to complete the Ottawa Public Health (OPH) COVID self-assessment for every student before leaving home each day.

Please fill in the following Attestation form before sending kids back from illness or testing:

This step is key to helping keep the virus out of the school.  Please take the time to thoroughly review the screening tool with your child each morning, and follow the directions provided by Ottawa Public Health.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep our staff and students safe and healthy.

Inclement Weather Days

Winter weather is now upon us. Please find below the procedures for inclement weather days.

Parents are asked to listen to local media in the morning to determine if the buses are running.  On days that OSTA has cancelled the buses, our school remains open for the normal day.  On no bus days, students will need to be dropped off and picked up for our 9:15 AM student entry and 3:30/3:45 PM dismissal.

Bused Students: It is not necessary for parents to call in a bus student's absence if they are not able to join us today.

Walkers: If your child normally walks to school but is, for example, ill and is not able to join us today, as per usual practice, please either email us at or call the school at 613-831-3434 to let us know that your son or daughter will be absent today.

If you regularly drive your child to school this year, or your child is a walker and your child will be absent, please email or call the school.

Kiss and Drop:  Starting at 9:00 AM, simply pull up to the front of the school and staff will be there to greet your children. You do not need to get out of the car; we simply ask that you help make sure that your child has all of their belongings with them, that they say goodbye to you, and then you are welcome to head off on your busy day!  Please note that students may not be dropped off before 9 am unless they are in EDP and all Kindergarten students are to be dropped off by a parent/guardian at the Kindergarten yard gate.

End of Day Pick up: As per our current COVID practices, we will continue with our staggered dismissal practices with the first group exiting the building at 3:30 PM and the second group of students leaving at 3:45 PM/  All Gr 1-8 students will be dismissed through the back doors of the school.  Gr 1-3 students will exit the field at the break in the fence near the skating hut and Gr 4-8 students will exit at the far end of Crossing bridge Park.  All Kinders must be picked up at the Kindergarten gate by a parent or guardian at 3:30 pm.  If your Gr 1-8 son/daughter normally walks home, please make sure that they know that they have your permission to do so again today.

Jojo’s Pizza Fundraiser for ALC

This Wednesday is again Pizza day at Jojo’s for ALC.  Let’s try to beat last month’s total of $428!  Don’t forget to mention ALC when you order.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Your child’s progress report is now available on the OCDSB Report Portal at  If you are having difficulty accessing the report card, please contact Mrs Norton at 613-831-3434 or for support.

Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for the evening of Thursday, November 26th. As it is difficult for a teacher to meet with the parents of all of the students that they teach during this window, staff have been asked to prioritize their interview time to those parents/guardians with whom they have not already met this year and/or to those students who received a Progressing with Difficulty on the Progress Report.  If you did not receive an invitation from your son/daughter’s teacher, but would still like to discuss their progress to date, please go to  and enter the Event Code fptv7.  Follow the prompts and fill in your personal information, including your child’s name and the name of the teacher with whom you would like to meet.  The teacher’s availability will then be displayed.  Once you have completed the prompts for the required information and selected a timeslot, a confirmation email, including a Google Meet link, will be sent to your inbox.  Parents/guardians have until noon Wednesday to access the software. Should there no longer be an available time slot, please email the teacher directly to arrange for an alternate mutually convenient time to either speak by phone or by Google Meet.
