Monday Morning Minutes March 8th, 2021
Posted on 03/08/2021
Dear ALC Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Message.

Daily COVID Student Assessment and monitoring for symptoms of COVID-19

Parents and guardians must complete the Ottawa Public Health (OPH) COVID self-assessment for every student before leaving home each day.

Ottawa Public Health link required Attestation form for return to school for a tested/ill child.

Anyone with symptoms must stay home and follow public health directives about testing.  This step is key to helping keep the virus out of the school.  Please take the time to thoroughly review the screening tool with your child each morning, and follow the directions provided by Ottawa Public Health.

Student Drop off and Pick Up Reminders

All parents and guardians are reminded that students in grades 1-8 may be dropped off at the front of the school between 9 and 9:15 am and/or families are asked to park in the neighborhood and walk their child(ren) to their designated area (Kindergarten gate, primary break in the fence or JR/INT break in the fence at the far end of the yard near Crossing bridge park).  Please note that the staff parking lot is not available for student drop off or pick up.

Lately, there has been a significant increase in traffic at the end of the street near Wendell/Hobin during drop-off and pickup times and it has become quite hectic for all to navigate the cars that are parked, parking, doing U-turns or trying to drive through. Add in the large snowbanks and ice and we have a potential danger.  We would ask that all families exercise extra caution when dropping off or picking up students and thank you for your vigilance and patience as we work together to ensure everyone’s safety at drop off and pick up.

Grade 9 SCSS Course Selection

Grade 8 ALC parents and students are reminded that course selections for Gr 9 at South Carleton Secondary are due Wednesday, March 10th.  Please refer to the email sent directly to Gr 8 families on Feb 23rd for details on how to use the online tool Xello and step-by step detailed instructions on making and submitting course selections.  For more information, please contact Mrs. Eady at

Jerusalema Dance Challenge

We have extended the due date for our Jerusalema video dance challenge by one week. All ALC students are encouraged to take the challenge with their family or friends outside, record it and then send their video to Mme. Evans before Thursday noon.  On Friday, March 12 (revised date), we will have another virtual school google meet to share the dances with the school.  Here are a few videos which might help:
