Monday Morning Minutes June 7th, 2021
Posted on 06/07/2021

Dear ALC Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Message. We hope you enjoyed the weekend and that this email finds you and your family doing well.

With the announcement this past Wednesday from the Premier that we will not be returning to in-person learning until the fall, we now await direction from Senior Management regarding the retrieval of student items, returning borrowed Chromebooks to the school, and the status of end of year celebrations for students.  The Director of the OCDSB, Camille Williams-Taylor, send a communication to parents this past Friday indicating that we will be proceeding with our virtual Gr 8 Leaving Ceremony and that the Board will also be examining opportunities for a safe in-person element, based on guidance from the provincial government and Ottawa Public Health. Meanwhile, our ALC staff are hard at work offering dynamic programming online for your children.  Thank you for supporting your children's learning at home during these difficult times.

Resources to Support Mental Health and Well-Being

This has been a most unusual and challenging school year for staff, students and families.  In addition to the pandemic, in the past few weeks, students, staff, families and communities at the OCDSB have felt the impact of the evolving crisis in Israel and Palestine, the anniversary of George Floyd’s murder, and the tragic discovery of 215 Indigenous children at the former Kamloops Residential School on Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation. We acknowledge that these events may be deeply upsetting for many students, families, staff and communities and our thoughts are with all who are impacted. In addition to your family doctor and our ALC Social Worker, Erin MacLeod, there are many resources to support ALC student and parent mental health and well-being in the Ottawa area including:
