Monday Morning Minutes February 8th, 2021
Posted on 02/08/2021

Dear ALC Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to this week’s Monday Morning Message.

A reminder that this coming Friday is a PA Day and there are no classes for students as ALC staff will be engaged in health and safety training and equity-based professional development. Also, Monday, February 15th is Family Day and the building will be closed.  Next week’s email will be a Tuesday Morning Minute (TMM) and should arrive in your inbox at 7 am on Tuesday morning.

Daily COVID Student Assessment and monitoring for symptoms of COVID-19

Parents and guardians must complete the Ottawa Public Health (OPH) COVID self-assessment for every student before leaving home each day.

Anyone with symptoms must stay home and follow public health directives about testing.  This step is key to helping keep the virus out of the school.  Please take the time to thoroughly review the screening tool with your child each morning, and follow the directions provided by Ottawa Public Health.

Attestation Form:  Please complete after a student has been home ill, sent home ill or a family member is home ill. This can be emailed to the alcabsence@ocdsb.ca email on the day of students return to school.

Thank you for your support of our COVID protocols

On behalf of the entire staff, we would like to congratulate all ALC students for the great job they are doing wearing masks all day at school.  A special shout out to our grade 1, 2 and 3 students who have adjusted very well to the change of protocol.  Parents and guardians are asked to continue to send the children with 2 or 3 masks per day as masks tend to become wet when worn for longer periods of time and a wet mask can feel quite uncomfortable.

Important Information re Valentine's Day

Due to COVID protocols, there will be no distribution or exchange of cards, treats or sharing of food for Valentine’s day.  We thank all ALC Parents and Guardians for your support in keeping us all safe and COVID-free.

Report Cards

Term 1 Report Cards will be available this Thursday on the report card portal.  The Term 1 report card will reflect your child's achievement of curriculum expectations introduced and developed from September to the end of January, as well as your child’s development of the learning skills and work habits during this period. Please note that as per Ministry direction, one overall grade is now given for Math, rather than the previous grades per strand.

As there are no formal upcoming dates set aside for parent-teacher conferences, we ask that you please contact your child’s educators directly if you have any questions.

Grade 4 Middle French Immersion Registration

Registration is now open for all Grade 3 Regular English students who would like to enter the Middle French Immersion in Grade 4 this coming September.  Parents and guardians who are interested in learning about the Middle French Immersion program at ALC are invited to join us for our MFI Information session on Wednesday, February 10th at 6 pm.  Please go to our school website for details on how to join the livestream.
