Monday Morning Minutes February 1st, 2021
Posted on 02/01/2021

Dear ALC Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back to in-person learning everyone!  We are looking forward to being back in the building tomorrow with your children after a month of remote learning.  This week’s Monday Morning Message is being sent a day early in order to give ALC families a chance to become familiar with the changes/additional measures that have been put in place over the past month.

New Primary Drop off and Pick Up Spot

We have relocated the grade 1 -3 drop off/pick up area in the back field to further distance it from the two ice rinks on the yard.  The new Primary entrance/exit is located at the break in the fence near the Renshaw path and crossing guard. Monday morning, we will mark off the new gr 1-3 drop off/pick up area with bright pink material on the top of the two fence posts. Parents and guardians are asked to social distance as they drop off and pick up their grade 1-3 child at this new location.  Kinder parents should continue to drop off their child to staff at the Kinder gate between 9 and 9:15 am and Grade 4-8 students will again enter and exit the yard by the basketball courts at the far end of the field. We will continue with our staggered end of day dismissal times of 3:30 and 3:45 pm.

Changes to Student Morning Building Entry

As our back field is now a series of peaks and valleys with the snow hills, we will be sending all students whose homerooms are located on the second floor, directly into the building upon morning arrival instead of having them line up outside in the field.  EF4/5 and EF5A will line up at the portable doors as per usual and EF6A will continue to line up behind the primaries on the paved area near the bike racks.  Primary classes will continue to line up outside as they did in the fall.

COVID-19 Protocol Reminders

Daily COVID Student Assessment and monitoring for symptoms of COVID-19

Parents and guardians must complete the Ottawa Public Health (OPH) COVID self-assessment for every student before leaving home each day.
https://secureforms.ottawapublichealth.ca/School-Health-Sante-scolaire/COVID-19-Screening-Tool-for-Students

Anyone with symptoms must stay home and follow public health directives about testing.  This step is key to helping keep the virus out of the school.  Please take the time to thoroughly review the screening tool with your child each morning, and follow the directions provided by Ottawa Public Health.

Please fill in the following ATTESTATION form before sending kids back to school after ANY illness absence.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep our staff and students safe and healthy.

Masks are now Mandatory for all grade 1 - 8 students

All students in grades 1 through 8 are now required to wear masks on the school bus, while inside the building (except while eating at their desk) and at recess time.  Kindergarten students are strongly encouraged to wear their masks as much as possible while at school.  As masks tend to become wet when worn for longer periods of time, we would ask parents to send a spare mask or two to school so that your child can switch to a dry mask during the day.  In answer to a few inquiries we’ve received about what constitutes a mask, Ottawa Public Health has provided the following description:. "Mask means a cloth (non-medical) mask, disposable (non-medical) mask or medical mask, that securely covers the nose, mouth and chin, and is in contact with the surrounding face without gapping, and filters respiratory droplets. OPH recommends wearing a 3 layer mask (if available/possible):2 layers of tightly-woven material fabric, such as cotton or linen, on the inside and outside with a filter-type fabric, such as non-woven polypropylene fabric, for the middle layer." To that end, scarves, bandanas and neck warmers do not meet this description and are not to be worn in place of a mask.

End of Day Dismissal Reminder to Leave the Property

With the winter months here, there are snow hills located throughout the schoolyard that children enjoy playing on. Due to Covid protocols as well as the current stay at home order, we ask that all parents please leave the schoolyard as soon as the children are picked up (3:30 or 3:45) for safety reasons. We thank you for your cooperation.

Daily Water Bottle Needed

Students must bring a full water bottle to school daily as the water fountains remain closed and only the water bottle filling station will be open.

Bussing Update

The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority has informed us that school buses will be running tomorrow morning but parents are asked to check the OSTA website tomorrow morning to ensure there are no last minute cancellations or delays.
