Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope you and your family are doing well. We also hope you enjoyed the opportunity to rest, rejuvenate and reconnect with family and friends in a more relaxed environment.  Once again this year, our preparations for the return to school look quite different than in the past.  We continue to receive direction from the OCDSB, Ottawa Public Health and the Ministry of Education to ensure that we are ready to welcome our students back to school as safely and smoothly as possible. Families should have received information from the OCDSB about general reopening guidelines. Early next week we will be sending home guidelines that are specific to A. Lorne Cassidy. At this time, the plans for re-opening remain cautious and we hope to be able to reduce restrictions as we move through the school year.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL- We will begin the school year with three Professional Development Days (PD Days) for staff.  Our students will return to school as follows:

September 9TH

We look forward to welcoming all Ducks in grades 1 to 8.

EDP begins for students in grades 1 to 6 who are registered for this program.

September 9TH and 10TH

Kinder intake meetings will take place for all Year 1 (Junior Kindergarten) students and new to Kinder Year 2 (Senior Kindergarten) students.  Parents will be invited to a virtual meeting with their child’s classroom educator team (Teacher and Early Childhood Educators).  Not only is this a great opportunity for our staff to gather important information about your child, it also provides our parents with the opportunity to ask important questions about this huge milestone!  You will receive an email confirming your appointment the week of August 30th.

September 13TH

Our youngest students (JK and SK students)  join us.  EDP begins for our Kinders effective the 13th.

Please note the school day begins at 9:15 AM.  Supervision on the yard begins at 9:00 AM.  For safety reasons, students should not arrive prior to 9:00 unless they are enrolled in the EDP program.

CLASS PLACEMENTS- Teachers will connect with all families before the first day of school so all students will know where to line up when they arrive. Class lists will also be posted on the walls on the exterior of the building by the different entry doors for students to review the first day of school.

OSTA- To access information regarding student transportation, including eligibility, bus stop locations and pick up and drop off times, please visit ottawaschoolbus.ca . Click on the parent portal to verify your child’s personalized information. We strongly encourage that students take the bus on the first day to establish routines and to immediately identify any glitches.OSTA has asked all families who are opting out of transportation for this school year to please let them know. Please use this link to opt out of transportation https://bit.ly/3gWSPEV

If you don’t plan on using student transportation services this fall, please complete the Opt-out of transportation form and help give those who need transportation space on the bus. Note: Students in the walk zone or attending virtual school do not need to Opt-Out of transportation, only students assigned to a bus should Opt-Out. https://bit.ly/3gWSPEV

SCHOOL SUPPLIES-  The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board has developed a common list of recommended personal use items for students in grades JK-3 and grades 4-8.  Please note that all items should be labelled and must fit inside the student desk.  Items will not be shared between students. Cubbies and lockers will not be available for students to store their belongings. Additionally, a labelled water bottle will be required as water fountains will not be used for drinking purposes.
