We have certainly had a busy return to school for 2022. Overall, the transition to remote learning went very well, and we truly appreciate your support in making the switch. Thank you to all of our educators for making the first week of online learning a success. Based on our visits to virtual classes, we know that a lot of extra hours were put into delivering an engaging program. Thank you also to our parents who provided tech support and assistance throughout the week as well.  We know it is not easy juggling these additional responsibilities.It certainly is a team effort and ALC always pulls together when needed.

Please know that your child’s teachers understand this and are happy to support you in any way we can. The focus for the evening is on the trades based credit program.  We would like all of our families to consider trades based/vocational education as a viable option and pathway to graduation.

 TAMIL HERITAGE MONTH- January has been designated as Tamil Heritage Month by the Canadian Government. “It is a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions Canadians of Tamil descent have made to Canada, as well as their extraordinary language and culture.

Canada is the proud home of one of the world’s largest Tamil diasporas. Tamil Canadians have enriched, and continue to enrich, our national fabric through their many achievements in business, politics, and sports, to name a few areas. This month provides us an opportunity to show our appreciation for their invaluable contributions in building an even stronger and consciously more inclusive Canada.”

There are many Famous Tamil-Canadians including the former NDP MP Rathika Sitsabaiesan was the first Tamil elected to Parliament in 2011.Other notable Tamil-Canadians include author Shyam Selvadurai as well as athletes, actors and directors such as Lenin M. Sivam, director of 1999.

Wellness Programs and the Health of Continuous Improvement - Gemba AcademyMENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING- The surge in Omicron and the return to remote learning has left many families and students feeling a range of emotions. For some, the news has been a welcome relief, while it has left others feeling frustrated and worried. The OCDSB mental health team has prepared some simple tips to support students and parents with well-being during remote learning. Learn more about these and other resources.

OCDSB Learning Support Services professional staff will be checking in with all students with mental health needs on their existing case loads during the period of virtual learning. Moreover, should school staff become aware of additional students experiencing mental health needs, referrals can be made to social work and psychology staff.

JoJo’s Pizza NIght: Jojo's kick back nights are back again this year! The last Wednesday of each month when you order from Jojo's in Stittsville just mention ALC and School Council gets 25% back. Mention it on the phone or put it in the comment box on an online order.  Starting next week January 26th, all day long.
