As we head into the holiday break, we want to take this opportunity to thank you for your teamwork as we have navigated our year thus far. Your support, flexibility and cooperation have been invaluable to us at the school. We truly are grateful to be working in such an amazing school community! We do encourage everyone to follow the advice of Ottawa Public Health in an effort to continue to keep everyone healthy and safe!

In this weeks message:

  • International Travel

THANK YOU FROM SCHOOL COUNCIL

School Council would like to extend a huge Thank You to everyone who contributed to our gift card collection for our sister school Carleton Heights. We were able to raise over $1700.00. And to everyone who contributed to the clothing drive earlier this year - Thank You. Every article of clothing and pair of shoes that was sent in  has been distributed to the students and families at CH. Carleton Heights would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the families at ALC.

Happy Holidays from the ALC School Council!

SCREENING TOOL HEADS UP- Upon returning to school in January 2022, schools and school boards have been directed to once again implement daily on-site confirmation of self-screening for all students. It is a requirement that all elementary students learning in person confirm or have a parent/guardian confirm each day that they have completed COVID-19 screening prior to, or upon arrival at school.

Beginning January 3rd, elementary students and/or parents/guardians are required to confirm they have conducted a COVID-19 screening each day to determine if they should attend school.  We will use the same processes we used in September.

Kindergarten: Students will be given a small card attached to their backpacks. Parents are asked to initial by the correct date that they have completed the screening.

Grade 1-3: a page will be added to the front of the agenda. Parents are asked to initial by the correct date that they have completed the screening.

Grades 4-8: Teachers will run through the screener each morning as they take attendance.

Rapid Test Kits: All students will be coming home with 5 rapid test kits on the last day of school before the break. This is a Ministry Initiative and all instructions will be provided for how to use the kits. Please note that if you receive a positive test result from the Rapid Antigen Test, you will still need to be tested at an OPH Testing site ASAP. The Rapid Antigen Tests are not as reliable as the PCR tests and should not be used as a definitive result. OPH will only action PCR test results.

VACCINE CLINIC AT ALC: OPH is holding a drop in vaccine clinic at ALC after school hours on December 17th. The clinic is for children between 5-11, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Please see the attached flyer for details about all of the drop in clinics through the city in December. The clinic at ALC begins at ALC at 4:15 and will end at 7:00.

SCHOOL PHOTOS: School photos are booked! More info to come as the dates get closer!

THE THIRD PATH - DAILY POSITIVITY PRACTICES - Try some of these practices to infuse positivity at home and school:

  • Success of the Day - ask your child to identify something they feel good about from their day, be it academic or social, big or small

  • Implement the “no complaining rule” - your child may not complain unless they are prepared to brainstorm two possible solutions to their perceived problem - this helps them feel empowered to solve problems

  • Help your child set short and long term goals, and devise a plan to achieve those goals - this will help them develop optimism and embrace ideas about their future

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL- We would like to remind families planning for international travel about the current federal protocols that exist for travelers. Please note, international travel rules are subject to change. The OCDSB is unable to provide specific guidance for families considering international travel, and any additional questions should be directed to Ottawa Public Health or federal authorities.

We hope everyone is able to safely enjoy some time with family and friends! For those families celebrating Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas. To our families celebrating Kwanzaa, Happy Kwanzaa.

Stay safe and make lasting memories! We will see everyone in 2022!
