WELCOME TO ALC

Once again this year, ALC students and staff are asked to pack a boomerang (litterless) lunch and snack.  Like a boomerang, all parts of the lunch will return home at the end of the day.  Our students and staff are asked to bring all green, recycling and waste back home at the end of the day.  No food items and waste are disposed of or left at school.  Not only does it help ensure that green, recycling and garbage are properly sorted at home, it helps the school better manage its waste. Additionally, it helps raise awareness around making litterless food choices and helps parents understand what their child eats at school.  Thank you in advance for your assistance.

MESSAGE FROM ALC SCHOOL COUNCIL

Hello ALC Families! School Council is back and looking forward to a great year! Our first meeting of the year is on Wednesday September 22, 2021 at 7 pm. We will be starting the year with virtual meetings only, via Google Meets. We will meet on the third Wednesday of the month throughout the year. Dates will be posted on the school website under the School Council section. What is the School Council? ALC’S School Council is formed from a group of volunteers that meet once a month to discuss topics that involve A. Lorne Cassidy Elementary School. It is an opportunity to develop a partnership between parents and the school. Each volunteer is a parent or guardian of a student enrolled at this school. If you would like to be a part of council please send an email to council sc-alornecassidyes@ocdsb.ca  to receive information and an invitation to our first meeting.

RETURN OF BORROWED MATERIALS (Chromebooks, hotspots, classroom and library materials):  If you had borrowed any technology or books that need to be returned to the school, we would be pleased to receive these back so that they can be added back into our inventory, checked by our IT department and returned for student learning.

DRESS CODE:

The OCDSB has revised their policies around dress code, and although the new policy has not yet been published, we wanted to share the main points for the Dress Code we will be using at ALC this year. It is important to note that the school will no longer be intervening with respect to style or choice of clothing, only intervening on clothing messages. This includes, but is not limited to the wearing of hats, style of shirts, and length and positioning of clothing.

  1. The Board recognizes that all students have the right to express themselves fully in school through choosing clothing, hair styles, jewelry and accessories that appropriately represent and affirm their varied identities.
  2. Clothing may not depict, advertise or advocate the use of alcohol, tobacco, cannabis or other controlled substances.
  3. Clothing may not depict pornography, nudity or sexual acts, or feature profanity.
  4. Clothing or personal possessions may not use or depict bias, prejudice or hate speech targeting individuals or groups based on prohibited grounds of discrimination.
  5. Inappropriate dress includes any clothing or personal possession that has representations and/or language that depict violence, profanity, discriminatory, hateful, or sexually explicit images or sentiments is prohibited.

INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGES PROGRAM - The OCDSB is offering virtual international languages at various sites across the district.  Please check here for further information on what is being offered through our Continuing Education department.

STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE: Creating a caring and safe environment for our students is our top priority. Unfortunately, despite all reasonable precautions being taken, accidents can still happen. Some injuries may result in medical, dental or other expenses that are not covered by provincial health care or employer group plans. As a parent/guardian, you become responsible for these expenses.

Student accident insurance is available for purchase, on a voluntary basis, through Old Republic Insurance Company of Canada. Parents may apply online at www.insuremykids.com or call 1-800-463-5437.

The OCDSB encourages all parents/guardians to consider purchasing this insurance.  The accident insurance coverage options range from $17.00/year to $33.00/year. This coverage is for the entire calendar year and also applies to accidents that occur outside of school hours.  If you have any questions, please call Binks Insurance Brokers directly at 613-226-1350

ELECTRONIC FORMS-: All families are asked to complete the following electronic forms for their children. These forms must be completed before students will be able to access technology at school.  Please note, these are two separate forms.
