Fabulous Friday October 1st, 2021
Posted on 10/01/2021

It is very hard to believe we are already in October!! September seems to have flown right by!

Through the month, we have had a lot of learning happening in the building. We have created this short video to highlight some of the things we see going on each day. It is unfortunate that others are not able to visit the school to see it, but we still wanted to show it off!! SEE WHAT WE HAVE BEEN UP TO IN SEPTEMBER

This week was a busy one! On Wednesday we were outside taking on our challenges for Terry Fox! It was great to see everyone outside enjoying their time together!

Understanding the National Day for Truth and ReconciliationThursday was the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The sea of Orange Shirts was impressive, but more moving was the answers students gave when asked why they were wearing them. Even our youngest learners are able to tell us why this day is important and why we are wearing the shirts. The learning that classes have been doing since the beginning of the year will continue every day as we do our part in actioning the Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Report. Each morning we are reading one of those calls to action, and classes are encouraged to discuss them together to better understand what they mean and how we, as a community can actively engage in the work of change.

ISLAMIC HERITAGE MONTH October is Islamic Heritage Month in Canada. This celebration of Muslim history and culture is a time for all of us to reflect, celebrate and learn about these contributions. Today, the OCDSB issued a statement on Celebrating Islamic Heritage and Combating Islamophobia.

ALLERGY ALERT AND INFORMATION- Did you know that ALC is an allergy aware school? Just a friendly reminder that some of our students and staff members have life-threatening allergies. While some of our classrooms are specifically designated free of certain products (nuts, peanuts, sesame seeds, popcorn), we would appreciate the cooperation of all ALC families to refrain from sending any of these products to school that could possibly endanger some of our students. Thank you for your assistance!

NO SCENTS MAKES GOOD SENSE- Scented products can aggravate existing health problems for people who suffer from asthma, allergies and many other medical conditions. As ALC is a 'No Scents Makes Good Sense' school, we would ask that students and guests please avoid wearing perfumes, cologne, scented hairspray, scented deodorant, aftershave and other scented products. Thank you for your consideration.

THE THIRD PATH- CONDITION #1: - All children fundamentally require safety and security in order to explore their world and learn.  They need at least one caregiving adult who is a secure base- someone they can rely on to be emotionally available and responsive to their needs. (The Third Path- page 47)

Covid-19 Health and Safety:

MASKS
: Students are doing a great job wearing their masks, and they are always responsive when reminded to put them back on if outside taking a mask break, yet close to classmates. Staff so appreciate their cooperation and their understanding of the importance of wearing them. Some reusable mask care information was shared with us, and we thought we would share with the community. How to choose, use, and care for a reusable mask.
