Friday March 3rd, 2023
On Tuesday, all of our students celebrated the learning that has been happening in our learning community during Black History Month. This gathering was hosted by EF3A and Mme. Evans, but highlighted the work of many classes. We were privileged to see work from many subject areas- The Arts, Science, Language. It truly was a celebration of the vast contributions that Black Canadians have made to our country.
On Wednesday, our Intermediate Boys Basketball Team hosted the GMS Greyhounds. While the result wasn’t what they had hoped it was be, the demonstrated sportsmanship and a never quit attitude. Well done! Thank you to Ms. Ireland and Mrs. Eady for taking on the coaching of these teams.
Mother Nature is certainly not letting up on us this year! There is more snow forecasted for the weekend and into next week. Please keep an eye on the OSTA website and social media posts regarding bus updates. The website also lists daily cancellations. We try to get that information out as soon as we can, but it might be helpful for families to take a look each morning as well.
Thank you to everyone for following our requests for drop off and pick up. We appreciate the cooperation and help in keeping our students safe.

If you have thoughts on class placements, please send an email to [email protected] by April 1, 2023. Specific teacher requests are not going to be considered, but if there is information that you feel teachers should consider when making those decisions, please send it along. All information will be factored in, but we are not able to make any guarantees. Please note that information coming in after April 1st may not be able to be included in the decision making process, as once classes are made, making changes becomes very difficult.

CELEBRATIONS IN OUR COMMUNITY
MAGHA PUJA DAY: (March 6) This Buddhist holiday celebrates a moment about 2,500 years ago when 1,250 enlightened Buddhist monks who had all been ordained by the Buddha came to see the Buddha without being summoned on the night of the full moon of the third lunar month. At a second, similar gathering 45 years later, also held on the first full moon of the third month, the Buddha announced that he intended to die in three months’ time. This announcement marks an important moment in Buddhist history. It is traditional to use this day to honor the Three Jewels of Buddhism: the Buddha (his enlightenment), the Sangha (the community of Buddhists around the world) and the Dharma (the teachings of the Buddha).
PURIM: (March 7) Purim is a happy, colourful and vibrant festival, which celebrates the defeat of an oppressive ruler in his quest to erase the Jewish people over 2000 years ago.
HOLI: (March 7) Holi is a popular ancient Hindu festival, also known as the "Festival of Love", the "Festival of Colours", and the "Festival of Spring". The festival celebrates the eternal and divine love of Radha and Krishna. It also signifies the triumph of good over evil, as it celebrates the victory of Lord Vishnu as Narasimha Narayana over Hiranyakashipu.

TOONIE TUESDAY – February 21st, 2023
A small investment with big change. $2 can be the difference between nothing
and something. DONATE HERE thank you!
Can you believe that last year’s Toonie Tuesday raised $68,000? Well, guess what?
This year we have an even bigger goal!
We’re aiming to raise $80,000 this year! Those dollars will go directly to support
OCDSB students with what they need to be successful.
At the Education Foundation of Ottawa, we believe that “it’s about what kids
deserve”, and every student deserves to have the tools they need to be successful.
That’s why we’re here. Our mission is to reduce barriers to ensure ALL students
can learn confidently by providing the things every student requires: appropriate
access to food, clothing, school supplies, healthcare supports, and opportunities
for learning and recreation.
I’m sure you’d agree; every child deserves to be successful! The challenges
students face are most likely, and often, out of their control. Thanks to the
Principals, Vice-Principals, and Social Workers who request support on their
behalf, the Education Foundation of Ottawa is here to help.
Here are some ways to make your commitment:
Parents/Guardians? You can donate easily through your School Cash Online
Account or send your child to school with $2 (or more) anytime between now and
Toonie Tuesday (February 21st, 2023).
Are you, or do you know, a business owner who would like to participate?
Businesses can choose an item where $2 or 2% of every sale goes to our 2023
Toonie Tuesday Campaign! Introduce us by putting us in touch with them!
With almost 10,000 staff and over 75,000 students, imagine what we could do
if everyone gave $2 (or more) this Toonie Tuesday. Help us say “YES” when we
receive requests for support.
A very sincere thank you!
February 22: Pink Shirt Day

RMHCO is home to hundreds of families each year, as are their 2 family rooms inside CHEO.
The PJ Walk is a simple way kids can feel connected to other kids and families undergoing treatment at CHEO.

It seems that Mother Nature has it in for Fridays this year as we are looking at another snowy Friday here in Ottawa! Just a reminder that tomorrow is a PA Day and there is no school for students.
